View from the Room: Hotel Narutis, Vilnius
I only found out a few days in that this is the oldest hotel in the city, and possibly the prettiest.
Location
In this quiet city, staying where the action is seems to have little effect on a good nights sleep. No buses come right into the centre of the old town but it is a few minutes walk from the cathedral and the start of the main shopping street. That walk is lined with coffee shops and restaurants.
Bathroom
- Towels – 2 large, 2 small, 2 face although some days the numbers went up as they excellent maid would leave extras even though we placed our bath towels on the self-controlled heated towel rail.
- Gilchrist & Soames toiletries – plenty of shower/bath gel, shampoo/conditioner, body lotions and soap. Plus shower hat, tissues and vanity pack. Again the maid left us extras half way through the tip to ensure we didn't run out.
- A good hand-held shower head and very long bath.
- Plenty of open storage, stool and hairdryer.
Power points - plenty including each bedside, hallway (outside bathroom), near full length mirror and desk 1 on each bedside.
Stocked fridge with a little room to keep you own drinks cold.
No kettle or coffee machine although available on request for €5 per day.
Lighting – plenty of options and a wide window looking out to the street.
Storage
Two double wardrobes with a few hangers but they bought up the 9 extra wooden ones I requested immediately.
Drawers – one in the desk and a small one in one wardrobe. Shelves in both wardrobes.
Mirrors – in the right places including one in the well lit bathroom, full length by the door and one around the bar area.
Two comfortable chairs by the window
Big soft bed with two duvets and plenty of spare blankets and pillows.
Air con that came on when you entered (or was it on all the time) which I switched off as the room was generally cool enough without.
All lights and air controlled by the bed
Service
Check-in is one floor up (ground floor just seems to be luggage store)
Only disappointment was that we checked in at 12 and were told to come back at 2 when our room should be ready. It was another hour and we had to chase several times. The lounge is comfortable enough (with hotel priced coffee) but the wait was pretty tiresome after a 14 hour flight. Apparently the hold up was the bath tub but I didn't understand as we'd requested that on booking and check out time was 2pm. So two hours to get a room cleam
Breakfast – excellent. Eggs made anyway plus hot buffet, cold buffet, cereals, juices, yoghurts, fruits, pastries and local breakfasts. Vast comfortable breakfast room with coffee machines and newspapers.
