Afternoon Tea at Swan Hotel, Bedford

Afternoon Tea at Swan Hotel, Bedford

Bedford being my town, wherever I go evokes a memory but the Swan Hotel is always incredibly special. As a child, this beautiful old hotel did nothing for my of course. However, after moving back to the town in 2004 to start my own business this became a regular meeting place. Back then I'd regularly choose it for coffee, interviewing people and the odd treat of afternoon tea.

In the last few months I have been twice and it's about as classic as you can get. The only twist is how they wrap up all the cakes you can't eat in one sitting in swan-shaped foil. Whoever thought of that is a genius.

Otherwise it's standard finger sandwiches, scones and look-to-good-to-eat cakes. There is a good tea selection which is good for someone like me who doesn't drink the old Breakfast tea - or even Earl Grey.

Tea is taken in the lounge which runs alongside the river-side restaurant and service and comfort is 5*, always.
