View from the Room: Tara Lodge, Belfast
A return visit to this terrific city for my birthday warranted a two-night say and Tara Lodge came up top. Walking distance from the bus station, it delivered in every way from the homely welcome followed by a birthday card and signature chocolates to the hair straighteners. I didn’t need them but I’m so impressed by a hotel that supplies them.
I’m grateful for every single item I no longer have to pack especially as mid-range hotels are less inclined to even provide basic toiletries these days. Many of the 4 star hotels I’ve stayed in recent years don’t even provide body lotion/hand cream but there was no such omission at Tara Lodge which proudly displayed a whole range of Orla Kiely miniatures.

Comfort
The bath had the hottest and fastest running water I recall in a hotel. After the luxurious baths, the fluffy bathrobes and matching bath towels (plus face cloths) motivated me to eventually get out.
Individual bedside lamps and sufficient plug sockets
Self-controlled radiator
Refreshments
Pod coffee machine with mugs and cups
Good cooked to order breakfast including potato and soda bread plus the usual array of cold buffet items.
They managed to squeeze in 2 armchairs and coffee table at the window beside the comfortable bed so there was a view wherever I placed myself.
