View from the Room: The White Horse, Coaching Inn, Romsey
For our second Coaching Inn stay of the month, we were upgraded. In fact, we think we were upgraded twice. Our room is spectacular with 5 large windows throwing light all across our home for the next 2 nights.
One end of the room is lined with two double wardrobes in front of which sits an armchair, a full-length free-standing mirror and then a comfy bed with bedside tables.
At the opposite end of the room is a sofa, a coffee table with a game, as always, and another unit squeezed into the corner with the regular Roberts radio and books.
Storage
Plenty of drawers, although a bit creaky including 3 bedside drawers
2 double wardrobes
Desk with 2 drawers
Bathroom
Heated towel rail (Switch high up on the ceiling outside)
2 luxurious bath towels and hand towels. No hook to put these though.
Bathtub shelf with a rubber duck. It’s always great to see one of these!
The regular full-sized toiletries
Separate shower
Deep storage drawer
Refreshments
Espresso machine and 2 cups
Kettle and 2 mugs
Biscuits
Water bottles
Plus another great restaurant where we enjoyed one of our meals.
The White Horse gave us a larger, airier room than Oundles Talbot with more luxurious touches. However, we are missing some basics, such as hooks by the front door. This is especially noticeable as we had to traipse past the bed at the opposite end of the room to put our jackets away.
We had bathrobes but no hooks to hang them anywhere.
The two double wardrobes largely went unused for a 2-night trip, although it would be fantastic for tourists who use this as a base to explore the southeast of England. We were here mainly for the annual pilgrimage to Monkey World hoping to spot our adopted Orangutan, RoRo.
There is a lovely sofa that looks perfect to sit by the window and read, except there is no lamp. I had to use my phone phone torch. There are no lamps in the lounge area. Only bedside or ceiling lights in the other half of the room. The latter could only be controlled by a switch by the door.
TV is high up in the corner. Uncomfortable to watch from the bed and too far to see from the sofa.
The glorious big space felt a bit thrown together rather than being planned out. Maybe they will refit it soon.
I loved Romsey, with all of its cafes and little shops not to mention a fantastic little department store, something sorely lacking in the big city I live in.
I was glad were able to enjoy the town while staying here.
