Singapore Learnings

Singapore Learnings

Based on my 'travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer' theory. Here are a few thoughts:

  1. Train stations are places of education. I loved seeing a poster on ‘how to better communicate with a person with dementia’ and all the positivity surrounding ageing “Dancing queen, young and sweet only 72” and the slogans for better travel experiences; ‘bag on the floor, makes space for more’ and ‘volume down, smiles all round’.

  2. You can have lots of space and seating in subway stations so people can spread out.

  3. Everyone loves Snoopy.

  4. Stewards on Singapore Airlines can, in fact, deliver an impeccable 5 * service wearing long skirts

  5. I discovered one of my favourite shoe brands, Charles and Keith (in John Lewis) is from Singapore

  6. Singapore is big on green spaces and its nightly light shows in parks draw hundreds of visitors.

  7. Famously, the airport is the best in the world and now I can confirm that is the case. What other airport can be considered a family-friendly destination in its own right, complete with free attractions (the largest indoor waterfall) and plenty to explore?

  8. That I still need to have my fan on in front of me, even sitting outside 10am, as there is no let up on the heat.

  9. Someone has already invented my brolly drying machine (spotted at Indian Heritage Centre)

  10. The tiniest thing can spark lovely memories. I enjoyed the best coffee experience of the Singapore trip in Nylon. This was topped off by spotting a poster for a Ryuichi Sakamoto event that took me back to my 14-year-old self and my Japan fandom (if you know, you know).

Lastly, I've noticed that every Asian country seems to have large MUJI Europe Limited stores—my obsession—with affordable cafes serving tapas-sized dishes and we have yet to enjoy this privilege in the UK.
