View from the Room: Novotel Hong Kong

For my first trip to this continent, my expectation is of excellent service and comfortable surroundings.  There were many hotels that boasted good views but wit smaller rooms. As we were there for a week, we decided to go for space rather than view and stay in the 'Chinese side', Kowloon.

Location

In this relentless city filled with shops everywhere you look, you are never far away from whatever you need and location wise, this hotel is 2 minutes walk from the bus stop or the nearest stop (Jordan) for the excellent and inexpensive metro. It's just off the main road, Nathan Road filled with aforementioned shops, cafés and services. It's also on the right side to walk/bus/metro down see that skyline where they hold a nightly light show each evening at 8pm.

Bathroom

  • Towels – 2 large, 2 small, 2 face so pretty good and most days they were softer than many hotels.
  • Toiletries – basic: shower gel, shampoo/conditioner and soap. Plus shower hat.
  • A good removable shower head and small but adequate bath. I looked forward to stretching out in my bath upon my return though. It seems that only a few rooms have bath tubs though.
  • Plenty of storage and hairdryer in drawer.

Power points- limited. 1 on each bedside – one had lamp plugged in. Nothing on other side of room. Shaver charge point in bathroom.

Stocked fridge with a little room to keep you own drinks cold.

Kettle and a drawer that held coffee, tea, sugar and dried milk with limited additional storage

Complimentary bottles of water outside of fridge, although we didn't know that until we bumped into the maid one day.

Lighting – plenty of options although our room was a little dark. Possible because we had another relatively high building looking over us.

Storage

Wardrobe with 9 hangers. I bought 9 dresses for a humid week plus the bf’s clothes. They bought up some more white metal ones on request and hung up the clothes I’d left on the bed.

Drawers – none. A few shelves in wardrobe.

Mirrors – in the right places including one in the well lit bathroom, full length by the door and one around the bar area.

Pillows – 4 good ones + spares.

Cushions on chaise longue (2 seats joined together)

Iron & board

One comfortable desk chair and plenty of desk space

Big comfy bed with one large duvet

Air con that came on when you entered (or was it on all the time) which I switched off as the room was generally cool enough without.

All lights and air controlled by the bed

Service

Check-in is one floor up (ground floor just seems to be luggage store)

Only disappointment was that we checked in at 12 and were told to come back at 2 when our room should be ready. It was another hour and we had to chase several times. The lounge is comfortable enough (with hotel priced coffee) but the wait was pretty tiresome after a 14 hour flight. Apparently the hold up was the bath tub but I didn't understand as we'd requested that on booking and check out time was 2pm. So two hours to get a room cleam

Breakfast – excellent. Eggs made anyway plus hot buffet, cold buffet, cereals, juices, yoghurts, fruits, pastries and local breakfasts. Vast comfortable breakfast room with coffee machines and newspapers.
